Considerations BEFORE you get a website

If you have ever made enquiries about getting your own website, you will know that it can cost you anything from 2 to 20,000 Rand, and even then you don't know what you are getting. Is your website optimized for search engines? Will anybody find it or will it be like putting a piece of paper in a shoebox behind, or underneath the cupboard, and expect someone to find it without telling them its there? Do you know which questions to ask, what preparation to do, what information to have ready so that the web developers/designers don't charge you an arm and a leg just to tell you what you have to do? Do you know what is required of you?

How big should your website be; how many pages, what content, etc? What do you want to achieve with your website? Is it as complicated as it sounds? Are there alternatives?
